“The Hair Klinik” Founder Mevelin Camacho

“What you put inside of your body shows”, says Mevelin Camacho (Founder of The Hair Klinik).  “Your pores are absorbing all of the chemicals which changes your aura and energy field. This is why my products are completely organic.”

Organic-Shea-Butter-Renewal-Mask-350x526Without an excessive amount of ingredients, her line mainly uses cinnamon, honey and coconut oil (and more) that offers hydration, shine, and hair growth. Speaking for myself, I was pleasantly surprised after using the Organic Shea Butter Renewal Mask: For Extreme Hair Repair because it softened the dryness in my hair. I’m one of those “I can’t live without my hot iron to smooth out the frizzes”, but as we all know, hot irons cause some of the most damage to the hair. Someone even joked about me having to shave my head bald so I can begin again by growing out my natural hair… well… to be honest… It was my little sister who said to, because she had no fear in shaming me in that annoying yet lovingly sisterly way. But thank god for this mask because it’s truly a miracle in a jar!

Maya Goddess Juices

10470809_406982646117549_6590479447245819964_n Beauty comes from within. No wonder why “juice expert” Maya Chambers, who is a wellness coach, visionary and founder of Maya Goddess, exudes so much beauty. When we met for the first time in the West Village at Think Coffee, I knew right away who was responsible for creating Maya Goddess. Tall & sleek with a short ‘do, strong eyes with an inviting smile, a bold color red on her lips that just so happened to match the same hue on her nails, vibrant skin; beauty emanated from her. I introduced myself with confidence knowing that this was in fact Maya.

While we were on line choosing our style of hydration, (she chose cold and refreshing water, I chose a hot herbal tea,) Maya quickly apologized for pushing back the meeting time so that she could deliver a juice to one of her clients. Of course it did not cause a problem with me, I was super impressed. Like, hello she hand delivers… couldn’t wait to hear more.

Maya Goddess Juices

After finding a nice semi-quiet spot (it took a minute, we are in NYC after all) we sat, sipped and chatted for what seemed like minutes but were more like hours. This is when I discovered that her outer beauty was a reflection of her inner beauty.

Intrigued in how Maya Goddess came about we took it back, way back. Maya is a lovely blend of Latina roots. The women before her came from the islands of Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Spain and Turks & Caicos, a Goddess for sure. However, the inspiration, the guidance and so much more came from her mother, aunt, and abuela (grandmother.) Maya was raised by three naturally beautiful women who were strong and educated; all having master degrees…even abuelas mom, Nana, she was the first Puerto Rican female teacher. Can we say ‘Wow’, definitely picking up the sense that Maya had a very empowering environment in which she was brought up in. No wonder why, Maya says

“Education is key, awareness is key…be that vessel, spread the awareness.”

Holiday Gift Recommendations

Holiday Gift Recommendations

‘Tis the season to spend money on our loved ones! But you say the holidays can get pretty pricey? Then why not show your love by purchasing gifts from small business owners and creative entrepreneur’s in our own industry? That’s right! Giving one little item can go a long way, especially when it’s exclusive and can’t be found in one of those big chain stores. Switch from the term ‘Starving Artist’ to ‘Independent Artist’, and get to know a painter who educates women on how to finance their dreams and live in their own power!

Painter/Artist – Mia Roman

We often hear that Artists aren’t usually business savvy because they’re more focused on being creative. I love nothing more than to prove that this misconception is wrong when I meet successful Artists who, not only earn a great living doing what they love, but even have the wits to teach and empower others how to do the same! Meet, Mia Roman: A NYC born and raised world wide traveler, a curator of workshops and expo’s, and a spiritually enlightened painter that celebrates the victory of women through her vibrant work.

If you click on her website ArtsbyMia, you’ll journey into her colorful mind as you browse through various galleries of tropical pieces adorned throughout her site. And although each gallery exudes its own special unique flavor, the series that caught my personal interest most entitled Goddess and Warrior features several female deities that Mia chooses to acknowledge and honor such as Goddess Kuan Yin (Mother of Compassion & Healing), Goddess Saraswati, (Goddess of Knowledge, Music and the Arts) and Mia’s favorite, Goddess Kali Ma (Goddess of Birth and Death / The Womb & Tomb) plus many, many more.

“My studio is a sacred space for me,” says Mia. “When I’m in there painting, I truly put my soul into it and become one with my art.” Mia continues to explain that she enjoys painting women more than men for two reasons: One, because of how strongly her female relatives have impacted her life, and two, because of the incredible women whose crossed her path throughout her worldwide travels in parts of Europe, Spain, and even The Netherlands, to name a few.

6212“No matter how many children women bare, we still balance maintaining a family-home-life and going to work, sometimes as single mothers. No matter how unequal we’re treated economically by earning lower salaries, we still motivate ourselves as career women. No matter how much we fight to be respected, we’re still told to speak softer, to tame down, and to neglect our own needs by nurturing everyone else’s first,” Mia says. “And this is why women fascinate me because the oppression of us has been going on for centuries and centuries in every culture, and yet despite the struggle, we always overcome adversity. The diligence of women has truly made an impact in this world.”

ACT: Artists for Creative Theatre

Jackie Rosa

A Modern Day, Multicultural, Multitasking, Mother of Two Making A Difference!!!

Jackie Rosa – Founder of ACT (Artists for Creative Theatre)

Being born and raised from a mother that went from Jehovah Witness to Catholic religion was confusing for Jackie Rosa at times, but the one thing that remained consistent growing up was her love for music and film. Like most young Latina’s, dancing around in her living room to the tropical rhythms of Salsa music was a traditionally, joyful, norm. Listening to Hector Lavoe, Eddie Santiago and Celia Cruz were a given on most days as her mother blasted the stereo speakers. However, Jackie humbly admits that she couldn’t escape becoming Americanized when creative Icons such as Madonna, Michael Jackson and Prince were at their all-time peak, influencing the way she viewed society through their creative outlets as they exercised their freedom of speech in racy music videos and provoking lyrical songs.

And there you have it! Another youngster infected by the creative inspiration to fight back societies manipulative ideologies to keep people controlled and asleep! But not this fierce individual. She was awakened by the music in her soul that needed to express itself in order to not only live, but to thrive!

It all started at the age of 8. Going from a God-worshiping church vocalist in a Christian choir, to witnessing her favorite boy band, Menudo, shake their asses on stage for screaming fans in Madison Square Garden, sent Jackie one clear message: She needed to perform, and nothing would stop her.
